The Indian longtailed sand-eel〔(Common names of ''Bascanichthys deraniyagalai'' ) at www.fishbase.org.〕 (''Bascanichthys deraniyagalai'') is an eel in the family Ophichthidae (worm/snake eels).〔(''Bascanichthys deraniyagalai'' ) at www.fishbase.org.〕 It was described by Ambat Gopalan Kutty Menon in 1961.〔Menon, A. G. K., 1961 (Mar. (publ. Sept.)) (9366 ) ''Bascanichthys deraniyagalai, a new eel from the Coromandel coast of India with a key to the Indian Ophichthyidae.'' Journal of the Zoological Society of India v. 13 (no. 1): 13-15.〕 It is a marine, tropical eel which is known from the Pacific and Indian Ocean, including India and Sri Lanka. It inhabits river mouths and lagoons. Males can reach a maximum total length of .〔 The Indian longtailed sand-eel is of no commercial interest to fisheries.〔 ==References==
